Senate confirms Bello Olatunji CEO, EVC,FCCPC; Ewalefoh as DG, ICRC

Senate has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Bello Olatunji as Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice Chairman, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

Senate has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Bello Olatunji as Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice Chairman, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

This followed adoption of the report of the Committee on Trade and Investment at plenary on Tuesday.

Presenting the report Chairman of the committee, Sen. Suleiman Sadiq (Kwara North) said the committee received all the documents of the nominee and invited him for screening on July 8.

He said the nominee appealed before the committee and was interviewed.

He said the nominee responded to questions on his qualifications, experience, suitability, competence and integrity to assume the position as CEO of the FCCPC.

He said the nominee has been found suitable and was recommended for approval.

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio after the confirmation thanked the committee for the report on the nominee.

He said the report was impressive, painstakingly and thoroughly done.

He thanked lawmakers for their contribution saying that the committee deserved commendation.

He congratulated Olatunji on his confirmation and charged him to selflessly and sacrificially work to improve the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Similarly, the Senate on Tuesday at plenary confirmed the appointment of Dr. Jobson Ewalefoh as the Director General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC).

His confirmation is sequel to presentation and adoption of report of Committee on Trade and Investment , following transmission of his nomination by President Bola Tinubu in letter to the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio requesting the consideration and confirmation of Dr. Ewalefoh. as the DG of the ICRC in line with the ICRC Act, 2005.

Meanwhile, Ewalefoh has pledged to boost investors’ confidence and infrastructure development.

While responding to questions during the screening by the Committee, Dr. Ewalefoh assured that he was poised to improve the operations of the Commission and improve investor confidence in the PPP ecosystem.

He also emphasized on the need for the inclusion of review clause in PPP agreements to ensure flexibility and sustainability of projects.

He equally spoke about the sanctity of contracts and the insistence on the adherence to contract provisions and clauses by all parties.

The Chairman of the Committee, Senator Sadiq Suleiman during the screening, commended the nominee for his vast academic qualification, knowledge of Public Private Partnerships and Infrastructure development as well as wealth of experience in the field of PPP negotiation.

In his remark, the President of the Senate, Godwill Akpabio congratulated both Dr. Bello Olatunji and Dr. Ewalefoh on their confirmation and charged them to ‘’selflessly and sacrificially work to improve the renewed hope agenda of the current administration.
“I congratulate them on behalf of the 10th Senate and wish them well in their endeavours”.
