Ogun Rejigs Child Rights Implementation, Monitoring Committee
The Ogun state government has rejigged and resuscitated the Child Right Implementation and Monitoring Committee (CRIMC) in order to safeguard, protect and promote the rights of children in the State.
The Committee, which would be headed by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, while the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, other stakeholders, including representatives of the Ministries of Education, Science and Technology, Health, Justice, Sports, Information and Strategy, as well as Office of Establishment and Training, Nigeria Immigration Service, among others were members of the committee.
Speaking at the resuscitation of the Committee, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Adijat Adeleye, while addressing members at the Ministry’s Conference Room in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, said they would be responsible for ensuring effective implementation of child rights laws and policies.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr, Oluwaseyi Sokoya, Adeleye said, the Committee was expected to initiate actions on effective implementation of the law, ensure the welfare of the child, collect and document information on all matters relating to the rights of the child, among other functions.
In his remarks, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, represented by the Director, Child Development Services, Mrs. Adenike Ajala, enjoined members to sustain the objectives of the Committee, which was to safeguard and promote the rights of children, as well as ensure the preparation and submission of periodic reports.
In their separate goodwill messages, representatives from the Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Felicia Adedowora; representatives of the Nigeria Correctional Services, Mr. Awesu AbdulAkeem and Coordinator, Child Protection Network, Barrister Adedamola Lapite and Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mrs. Waliyat Odemakin, commended government’s efforts in resuscitating the Committee, promising to protect the overall interest of the child by working in synergy to achieve the expected goal.
